Current Information:Age-32 54, Vanderbilt Road, Earlsfield Hermies Hill British Cemetery, France
On 26th December, 1917, 17th Middlesex of 6 Brigade, 2nd Division, took over the front line trenches near Hermies, an area where there had been some recent heavy fighting during the Battle of Cambrai. This particular battle may have been over but the enemy still maintained an artillery barrage of the British line on a daily basis. This shelling was particularly heavy on 28th December and some of it fell on a ration party taking food to the men of ‘A’ Company, killing two and wounding another four. One of those killed on this day was Warren Dore. |
